When do entries close and can I enter on the day? |
All entries close a week before the events on Friday 15th of October but please enter well in advance of this and avoid a big rush of entries at the end. Late entries or entering on the day costs $10 extra. |
How muddy is the Dusky Trail? What is the track like? |
A lot depends on the weather conditions leading up to the event. A
large portion of the event is on well formed 4WD tracks with a smaller
amount on gravel roads (approx 8 km) and sealed road (approx 4 km). The
bit of single track (approx 4 km) in the middle is reasonably new but
is settling down pretty well so it is generally not very muddy. |
Will I get my feet wet on the Pyramid Run? |
Yes, the new variation to the course has two main stream crossings
(Darts Bush and Fraser Streams) plus a couple of other smaller creeks. |
Do I get a discount for entering all three events? |
No, we feel that $100 for all three is still a really good deal given
the excellent organisation, good food provided on the day and the great
spot prizes that we have lined up, not to mention the best scenery in
NZ! |
Can I train on the Pyramid Run and Dusky Trail courses? |
No, both of these courses have portions that are on private property.
If you want to get a feel for most of either of the courses, you must
keep to the DOC marked tracks. |
Can I run the Pyramid Run on the day but not compete? (i.e. not pay an entry fee) |
Both of these courses have portions that are on private propert so you can't run the whole course, but we can't stop you from
running on the DOC marked tracks. But hey - why not get into the spirit
of the event which is about raising money for Community groups and who
knows, you may win a really good spot prize. |
As I am a slow runner, can I enter as a walker and run sometimes? |
Please enter the run category. We dont mind how long you take and prize giving is not until 2 pm in Twizel. |
Can I camp at the start of the event? |
No, the start/finish area is on private land and we
really appreciate being able to use it so please don't camp there. Look
at the accommodation page which gives links to a whole range of of
different types of places to stay including camp grounds at very
reasonable prices. |

How difficult is the Dusky Trail MTB race? |
We are trying to cater for all ages and abilities although there is an
age limit of 12 years. While there is an overall vertical climb of
550m, generally the gradient is fairly easy. We have a cut off time at
12.30 pm at the bottom Fraser Stream crossing so this avoids having to
climb up over the Pyramid saddle, instead you have a gentle descent
down the Fraser Stream to the finish. |
